Map making probably begins by using a stick to carve directions into the ground to the best hunting areas. Evidence suggests that the map making evolved independently in many separate parts of earth. Early Eskimos carved ivory coastal maps. Incas built relief maps of stone and clay. The Chinese used maps as early as 7th century B.C. The earliest direct evidence of mapping comes from the middle east where ancient clay tablets show the earth as a flat circular disk. Now while we don't have anything quite as eclectic as this we do have a fine collection of antiquarian and historical maps.

Browse our increasingly fine collection of Antiquarian Maps both of local, national, and world interest along with a fine assortment of unusual prints and various related historical ephemera.
