Sites and Townships Specific To This Map Are: The Following facts are referenced on this map: This is a map of the Arkansas and other territories of the United States, respectifully inscribed to the Hon. J.P. Calhoon, Secretary of War; In 1805 the Louisiana Territory was created, and in it was included Arkansas as it is today, but jurisdiction changed to Missouri Territory when it was organized in 1812; It was in 1792 when land grants increased to Americans and settlers made their homesteads along the rivers of Eastern and Southern Arkansas; and Many people had come from Kentucky and Tennessee, and by 1800 had started a settlement at Big Prairie, near the mouth of the St. Francis River.
